Milan’s most important appointment of the season is just over a week away: in nine days, Sergio Conceicao’s team will face Inter in the Coppa Italia semifinal return leg. They will restart from the one to one of the first leg: the Rossoneri have nothing left but that to try to make sense of this year’s finale. Before that decisive challenge, Milan will be on the pitch on Easter Sunday to play Gian Piero Gasperini’s Atalanta at the San Siro: a match that does not have much importance in terms of standings and result, but it is another test, after the Udine away match, of preparation ahead of the return semifinal.
In Friuli, we saw a new system of play with three central defenders: a structure that convinced everyone and that could be re-proposed with the Orobici as well, so as to better face and mirror a team that makes one-on-one its strong point. Not just the form: Conceicao could also bring forward other confirmations, some surprising.

Among the most important choices Conceicao made in Udine concerns the attack: from the first minute in the center forward role, between Leao and Pulisic, the choice fell to Luka Jovic. Abraham remained on the bench (also recovering from a knee injury) and Gimenez was not even summoned due to a physical problem. The former Fiorentina man, who had done well in recent outings (with goals against Napoli and the violets), thus earned starting space.

He had not played from the first minute since the first day of the championship against Torino and his test, even without a goal, was still positive. That is why Conceicao might decide to give him once again space from the first minute against Atalanta. The coach could, as mentioned, reintroduce the 3-4-3 and the idea of seeing the Serbian starting again as a center forward, alongside Leao (or Joao Felix) and Pulisic (or Chukwueze) is concrete.
It cannot be ruled out that Conceicao may also make other decisions regarding the module: the coach always repeats that his favorite is the 4-4-2 and, considering the good moment of form of both Jovic and Abraham, he might think of deploying them together. These are very important months for the Serbian: his contract expires in June and he is earning his reappointment. Who knows, maybe he could resoundingly change his future thanks to these good performances and stay.
