Here’s why Ilic’s goal was disallowed: what the regulations say

Al 92′ Ilic aveva trovato la rete dell’1-1 ma è stata annullata per una precedente infrazione di Biraghi rilevata dal Var

At 92′ of Como-Torino, Ivan Ilic had found the 1-1 goal with a conclusion from the limit. However, the joy of the goal lasted only a few moments: on a Var signal, in fact, referee Mercenaro cancelled the goal. Why? Because Cristiano Biraghi, who shortly before had taken a corner kick, had unintentionally touched the ball twice: the full-back had slipped at the moment of the shot. By regulation, the ball at the time of taking a penalty, free kick, corner or kickoff cannot be touched twice by the same player, if this happens the referee must whistle a penalty in favor of the other team, as in fact happened at Sinigaglia.

Ivan Ilic of Torino FC looks on during half time of the Serie A football match between Torino FC and Empoli FC.
