Milan has said goodbye to hopes of achieving qualification for the next Champions League and risks being out of all European competitions next season. The championship is heavily compromised, although they must try to win as many games as possible until the last day.
The next game is Friday night against Udinese at Bluenergy Stadium. Kosta Runjaic’s team is coming off three consecutive defeats and has not picked up any victories in the last four days, not living a good moment. However, it should never be underestimated, especially on a historically hostile field like Udine.
Verso Udinese-Milan: episodio vergognoso
In the last championship Udinese-Milan ended with the result 2-3, with the decisive goal scored by Noah Okafor in the third minute of recovery. That match also caused controversy because of an incident of racism against Mike Maignan, who, outraged by some chants and howls, had decided to leave the field. Match momentarily suspended and then restarted.

Four people had been identified and punished with 5-year Daspo, plus Udinese had ended up playing two games with the North Curva closed. Mayor Alberto Felice De Toni had apologized and proposed honorary citizenship for Maignan, but in the City of Udine that proposal did not pass and nothing came of it.
After more than a year, the French goalkeeper will return to Bluenergy Stadium and will likely find a hostile environment. There has already been a starter today: a banner reading “Maignan man of shit” was displayed on an overpass near the Udine stadium. A shameful message that is outraging the people of Milan and beyond.
Obviously, it is a mistake to criticize all Udinese fans for a banner made by only a few. Generalizing is always wrong and should not have been done even a year ago, when a few behaved as racists and were rightly punished. Unfortunately, reading some comments on social networks there is no shortage of those who agree with what was done by those who decided to display such a banner in very bad taste.
It continues to be complicated to understand why soccer, thus a sport, is experienced so negatively. It is not a war. It is a problem of so many fans, evidently unable to live with the right spirit of sporting events. Too bad.
Udinese’s Curva Nord issued the following statement, “Friuli, Udine and the Curva Nord are not racist. Let us prove it. Our dissent towards Mike Maignan (the people of Friuli do not forget), done in a civil manner without falling into discriminatory attitudes. Let us go beyond more or less piloted media resonances, let us make ourselves heard while remaining within the canons of fairness that have always been recognized to us.”
