Roma working on coach for next season: the Ancelotti hypothesis is no longer a dream, the assist comes from Madrid

Roma is having a truly extraordinary end to the season. The Giallorossi, despite suffering, also won the full spoils against Lecce and thus brought home their seventh consecutive victory. Together with Bologna, it is undoubtedly the most in-form team in the league and is probably also the favorite for fourth place at this point.

Sixth place in the standings with 52 points, four less than Bologna, and the last eight days to be lived all in one breath, with the Giallorossi never so close to the big goal in recent years. Thanks above all to Claudio Ranieri: at the end of November he arrived at the bedside of an almost moribund team, even fighting not to be relegated.

In four months he has turned everything around, giving the team game and identity and leading it to climb all the way up the standings, all the way to the fight for the Champions League. The last eight matches to hit the big target, unimaginable until a few months ago and then say goodbye to everyone: Claudio Ranieri’s plan is well defined and clear. After all, Sir Claudio had already decided to retire at the end of last season, after a miraculous salvation with Cagliari.

Ranieri addio, chi al suo posto: da Gasperini a Pioli, le ipotesi

Ranieri, however, could not resist the call of “his” struggling Roma. At the end of the season, however, he will leave the bench while remaining in Trigoria in other capacities. And so the casting for the bench has already begun. And there are indeed many names. One out of all, that of Gasperini, has been ruled out by Ranieri himself.

A welcome profile for the Grugliasco native, especially for what he showed with Atalanta, it certainly seems that Roma is not in his destiny. A bit like Allegri, also screened but definitely more in Milan’s share. Also on the list of favourites is Stefano Pioli, coach of Al Nassr and a 12 million euro net salary including bonuses.

However, the former Milan man has a rescission clause in his contract that allows him to be released at the end of June. Pioli, however, has a flaw of no small importance: he coached Lazio, a situation invisible to Roma fans. The dream for the Giallorossi, needless to say, would be Carlo Ancelotti.

Roma, perché l’opzione Ancelotti è possibile: c’entra Florentino Pérez

The Real Madrid coach knows the Roma environment well from having worn the Giallorossi jersey as a player and has never hidden that he would love to coach Roma. And the piazza would definitely welcome him with open arms. Ancelotti, however, is armored at Real Madrid and is mostly focused on a final season that can give him La Liga and Champions League victory.

And, as if that were not enough, Ancelotti is also being courted by Brazil, which would like him on the Greenoro bench to open a new cycle. The coach from Reggiolo is tempted but at the moment is focused solely on Real Madrid. The merengues, however, could also decide at the end of the season despite a contract until 2026.

Florentino Pérez is bewitched by Xabi Alonso, capable of winning the Bundesliga last year with Bayer Leverkusen (also winning the German Cup and the Europa League final). The Spaniard, moreover, also played for Real Madrid, and Pérez sees him as the ideal coach for the Merengues. And who knows, the reversal might not happen in the summer especially in case of “zero title,” with Ancelotti at that point headed for Rome.
