Inter bets on Solet: overtaking Bijol for the defense of the future

Oumar Solet’s performance against Inter Milan at San Siro has dispelled all doubts: he will be the main target for the Nerazzurri defense next season. The meneghino club, which has also been closely watching department mate Jaka Bijol for months, has now clearly shifted its attentions to the Frenchman, author of an excellent second half of the season with Udinese.

According to reports today in Corriere dello Sport, Solet has overtaken Bijol in the preferences of Inter’s technical area. The Slovenian central, initially at the top of the list because of his ability to act in the heart of a three-man defense, has shown obvious limits precisely in direct clashes with Inter, slipping in the hierarchies. In parallel, Solet’s odds have risen, thanks to a consistent performance, personality on the field and greater tactical pliability.

Le ragioni del sorpasso

Solet habitually plays as an arm in the Friulian system, leaving Bijol in the central position. However, Nerazzurri observers consider him fully capable of adapting to the central role as well, thanks to a combination of physical strength, sense of anticipation and ability to build from the bottom. Characteristics that fit perfectly with the defensive needs of Inter, which is increasingly projected toward proactive but careful soccer.

Despite initial doubts about his physical fitness, Solet has demonstrated reliability: 11 games as a starter, only one change and only one absence due to disqualification. Elements that have reassured even the most skeptical within the Nerazzurri staff.

Bijol, Hien e le alternative

If Bijol has disappointed in direct comparisons, committing several inaccuracies, the other carefully evaluated name, Isak Hien, has also seen his odds drop due to too many defensive uncertainties. Among the alternatives that remain under observation is still Beukema, but Solet has taken off, imposing himself as an ideal profile.

Inter is looking for a reliable element to fit into an already broken-in three-man defensive line, and the Frenchman’s versatility is considered a decisive asset. He can set up, defend in the open field and provide aerial coverage-a complete package that makes him attractive in the international market as well.

Il nodo economico

The only real obstacle today is the valuation of Udinese, which is determined to maximize the possible sale of Solet. Purchased on a zero-parameter basis, the defender could guarantee a capital gain of more than 30 million euros, a figure below which the Friulian club does not seem willing to go.

Inter, aware of the need to reinforce the rearguard with a ready-made profile, nevertheless evaluates the investment, also in light of the exits expected in the summer session.
