Former Bologna technical director Walter Sabatini commented on the season’s progress of the Rossoblù, who are in the midst of a race to return to the Champions League again next year.
BOLOGNA. “Can Bologna make it back to the Champions League? Yes, it is strong and deserves it. Italian is good, he has erased the old vices, he no longer has balance problems. Then there are the players and the structure. They have a solid defense and a midfield that kills you. The real blow was getting Freuler back, they all play better with him. The Swiss is for Juventus or Inter, I don’t know why Atalanta let him go.”
BUILDING. “Between a beautiful woman and a team I choose the team. But to be built, not made, that can create hope. Because soccer does not belong to coaches, DSs or soccer players, but the exclusive property of the people. Our job is to give people happiness. Orsolini’s goal in Venice, for example, is joy, even for those who know nothing about soccer.”
MOTTA. “Thiago Motta failed at Juventus, how do I explain that? In Bologna he had players enslaved to the project, in a familiar context. As soon as he had a voice out of the chorus, everything blew up. A coach does not have to be sympathetic to the players but he has to know how to communicate with them. And not only with orders.”
