Allegri: Milan, Inter or Roma? A new hypothesis is making headway

Max Allegri is watching, reflecting and waiting. But something is moving. And there is a bench that could return him to his rightful place: center stage

It so happens, that in an increasingly hectic and impatient soccer, taking a sabbatical is seen as a revolutionary act. But Massimiliano Allegri has chosen just that: to stop. Not to disappear, but to listen. Himself, the changing ball, the sound of creaking benches.

Some read it as a step backward, some as a software update. The fact is that Max never really left the field. He just observed it from a higher vantage point, where future trajectories are best seen.

Meanwhile, as his phone kept ringing with international dialing codes, a mind-boggling offer arrived from Jeddah, signed by Al Ahli. A three-year nabob deal, including staff, private jet, and total freedom of management. All very tempting, but also all very … far away.

Because Allegri, like it or not, is a coach who still wants to hear soccer: the barroom controversies, the awkward questions in conference, the whistles and applause in the corners. And for now, only Italy can offer him that toxic and irresistible mix that has always turned him on.

Roma, Inter e Milan: i sondaggi per Allegri

All it took was for rumors to start circulating about an Allegri ready to re-enter the business, that several big names started moving. Roma showed up with perfect timing, looking in him for the experienced profile to turn over a new leaf. The courtship was there, serious even, but with little mutual conviction. Allegri sniffed the air: unstable environment, management in search of identity, too many unknowns.

On the other side of the map, there is Inter Milan. A thought, rather than a real lunge, that crossed Marotta’s mind when it looked like Inzaghi might migrate to the Premier. But with the renewal now ready for the coach from Piacenza, any talk has deflated like a punctured balloon.

More intriguing, however, is the Milan hypothesis. There, Allegri left a Scudetto and some regrets. A return would have the flavor of revenge, of a second chance. And there have been conversations. But the feeling is that something never quite comes back. A matter of feeling, perhaps. Or a different vision.

There is, however, one hypothesis that, until now, has remained under the radar. But one that-if two or three pieces fit together-could explode in everyone’s hands.

Allegri al Napoli se Conte va alla Juve: si fa largo una voce clamorosa

We are talking about Antonio Conte’s Napoli, the one that at the beginning of the season few would have bet on fighting for the Scudetto. Yet there it is, playing it all the way with Inter, with a Champions League already in the bag and a people back to dreaming. The problem, however, is that Conte and De Laurentiis are like oil and water: they tolerate each other but do not mix.

The Salento coach is attracted by the possibility of a resounding return to Juventus. And the president, who has already struggled to digest certain “autonomist” attitudes of the coach, might even let him go.

At that point, who to get? Here comes Allegri popping up as the most logical option to continue (and perhaps improve) Conte’s work, just as he did in Turin. He has charisma, experience, can win right away. And he would have at his disposal a treasury of at least 150 million, between the sale of Osimhen and the equally fragrant sale of Kvaratskhelia.

For Allegri, it would be an unmissable opportunity: an already competitive club, a Premier League budget, a top manager’s salary. Without having to start from scratch or reinvent the wheel. It would be, above all, a chance to re-enter through the front door. In an environment that is passionate, demanding, but ready to exalt him like few others.

It remains to be seen whether De Laurentiis will really want to invest so much more on such a project, or whether he will prefer to focus on an up-and-coming name like Vincenzo Italiano, more aligned with a sustainable, long-term vision. But if Napoli decides to stay at the top, and to do so immediately, Allegri is the perfect profile. Because the sabbatical is over. And Max wants to get back to winning. But only where it’s worth doing.
