At Milan’s Mike Maignan can now really say goodbye at the end of the season: Furlani and Ibra have identified the new No. 1

“If something can go wrong, it will,” an old assumption, Murphy’s Law that is (almost) never wrong. At home Milan, the season is completely one to forget. Ninth place in the standings with 47 points, six less than fourth place, the last to give qualification for the next Champions League.
That for Milan should always and in any case be the minimum goal. And instead, the Rossoneri are in danger of staying out of the most important competition, the one that fills clubs’ coffers with millions. Pulisic and his teammates are coming off two consecutive victories, both of which came in resounding comebacks, but the team is struggling to take off despite the fact that fourth place is closer.

Sergio Conceiçao will try to hit the target and perhaps win the Coppa Italia to make a season that is as up and down as it can be less bitter. What is certain is that these will be the last weeks for the coach on the Rossoneri bench, with his farewell de facto already announced. Besides, the results are not rewarding him and so the reversal is already ready.
In July, therefore, a new project will be initiated with a new coach, probably Max Allegri, currently the number one favorite. Several players on whom wide-ranging evaluations will also be made, among them the one concerning Mike Maignan. The goalkeeper was a staple at Milan, still is but no longer seems as indispensable as before.
Several uncertainties of the transalpine goalkeeper during this season have prompted in-depth reflections at Via Aldo Rossi. The goalkeeper’s contract expires in June 2026 but the agreement between the parties-at least verbally-has been reached until 2029 with substantial salary increase, from the current 2.8 million to as much as 5 net per year plus bonuses.
Maignan, however, has not yet signed partly because there has been a pause for reflection between the parties. And twists and turns are not ruled out, with the negotiation possibly blowing up for good. At that point, Milan would put the goalkeeper on the market as early as the summer so as not to lose him for free in a year’s time.
Andrey Santos: chi è il gioiello che fa gola a Milan e Inter
Milan, on the other hand, would have already identified the ideal goalkeeper for the number one shirt. Once again they are looking to France and Lille, the club from where Maignan was picked up four seasons ago for 16.4 million. The new target is Lucas Chevalier, class of 2001 and locked in a contract until June 2027 with the transalpine club.

A good 189 centimeters, permanently summoned to France, Chevalier has a valuation of about 30 million euros. A profile considered ideal and reliable for both the present and the future. There is no shortage, however, of alternatives: leads to Serie A, to Atalanta. It is Marco Carnesecchi, class of 2000, now a staple of the orobici.
