HUMMELS: “In Rome there could not have been a worse start. Ranieri has a natural authority. The fans? Special.”

AS ROMA NEWS – An intense experience, between ups and downs, but far from disappointing. This is how Mats Hummels describes his time at Roma, which will end at the end of this season. In an interview with the German press, the defender looked back on his adventure in the Giallorossi, highlighting the reasons that led him to choose the capital.

“Rome and Italy have always fascinated me since I was a child. I had already been to the Eternal City a couple of times and knew its beauties. I love discovering new cultures, and it happened exactly what I wanted,” Hummels recounted, without hiding the difficulties he encountered in the first few months. “The start on the field, however, could not have been worse,” he frankly admitted.

On the level of the Italian league, the German defender highlighted the differences from the Bundesliga: “Football in Serie A is very different. Here you play so much man-to-man and full field.” Finally, a few words about Claudio Ranieri, a coach who left his mark on his experience in Italy: “He has a natural authority, he is spontaneous, polite, but he knows how to make himself heard when necessary.” And, of course, a thought for the Roma fans: “They are something special.”
