Pay coin, give camel. In the free market it is inevitably the seller who makes the price and the same will happen this summer when clubs come to Milan asking for players. The Diavolo, even without Champions League, has no need to sell and the last two balance sheets closed in the black are proof of that.
It will be the Diavolo, then, who will determine how much their players are worth and whether or not they consider it appropriate to sell a particular element. These days there has been insistent talk again about Alexis Saelemaekers and his fair price (but fair for whom?). Reading the newspapers, everyone seems to agree that the Belgian’s valuation should not exceed 20 million euros, but that the fairest figure for his possible sale should be closer to 15 million.
It is a narrative that is difficult to understand. A narrative that slaps in the face of the Serie A soccer market world, in which Davide Frattesi is valued at 50 million euros. Inter will be good, of course, should they actually manage to sell him for that amount, perhaps to Roma itself, which bought Soule from Juve for 30 million euros last summer.

The former Frosinone man’s qualities are not in question, but the numbers are there, merciless: three goals and one assist in 1458 minutes with thirty appearances. Numbers (from Transfermarkt) lower than those of Alexis Saelemaekers, who scored six goals, plus five assists, in 26 matches with 1465 minutes. The employment of the two has thus been virtually identical, often in the same role, although the Belgian can also move around the full wing.
These numbers, then, are further proof that the Belgian’s season is more than positive. But at Roma of this they are more than convinced. The Giallorossi have thus enhanced the value of a player, who last summer could be bought for close to 20 million and who today is obviously worth much more, at least 30 million euros.
If Roma would like to keep him, therefore, they will have to shell out a sum close to the indicated amount, or else Saelemaekers will return to Milanello, ready to play again for the Diavolo or be sold abroad. The Belgian’s future remains, therefore, all to be written, but no discounts.
