The Champions League is little more than a mirage for Milan. The Rossoneri club is currently ninth in the standings with 47 points, and they have six points to make up over fourth-placed Bologna. Not an unbridgeable gap, considering also how the Rossoneri are coming off two consecutive wins.
Against Lecce and Como, however, they came in comebacks that while the team showed great character and a desire to never give up, it also blatantly sinned in organization and approach to the match. In short, from Fonseca to Conceiçao, the big problems in the Rossoneri’s house have not been solved, with the team appearing in obvious distress.
And at this rate, given also the fiercer competition than ever, it seems almost utopian to think of Champions League qualification. A very hard blow would be for the Rossoneri but also and above all for the team’s coffers, which would have to do without the tens of millions guaranteed by Uefa. A situation that is likely to become complicated given how the team must be prudent in its spending and almost self-financing.
Milan, sarà rivoluzione: riflessioni su Maignan e Theo
That’s why in Milan’s house people are already starting to think about the team’s future and how to collect those millions needed for the budget. If these do not come from Uefa for the Champions League, well, they will have to come from the market. And so in Via Aldo Rossi the managers are already at work on a real re-foundation that will have to involve all the roles of the team.

The players under scrutiny are several and especially the big boys have come under the magnifying glass. With Maignan there is already a verbal agreement for an extension, complete with a salary increase to over 5 million euros, but the signatures have not yet been affixed, with a period of reflection on both sides that could even lead to a breakup.
In recent weeks, the French goalkeeper has not been as decisive as he was a few years ago-several uncertainties-with Milan winking at Lille’s Chevalier while France’s goalkeeper could also be setting his sights on a new experience, with Bayern Munich looking for a deputy Neuer.
Non solo Maignan e Theo: saluta un altro big
With Theo, however, renewal talks have not entered the hot phase. The two Frenchmen, therefore, could both leave Milan both to make cash and relieve the budget of two heavy signings but also to kick off a deep revolution.

Also on the landing list, however, is another big name: it is Malick Thiaw, the German defender who is currently a pivot in the Rossoneri rearguard. The central player is captivated by the sirens coming from the Bundesliga, from Leverkusen mainly. The center-back has already played in Bayer’s youth sector and would gladly return to the North Rhine-Westphalia club for the continuation of his career.
Thiaw would also return to Germany to play his chances of being called up for the World Cup. Nagelsmann, Germany’s coach, has so far never called him up despite playing for AC Milan. A return to his homeland could help him hit the big target. Thiaw would then ask the Rossoneri for a transfer, with Bayer having already sounded out the center-back’s willingness to play with the Aspirins.
The defender is bound to Milan by a contract until June 2027 but so far no renewal talks have been initiated with the player. Thiaw is an untouchable footballer for the Rossoneri club but in case of failure to qualify for the next Champions League, well, he would become expendable for budgetary needs. And for about 30 million he could say goodbye.
