AS ROMA NEWS – Former historic Roma captain Giuseppe Giannini gave an exclusive interview to today’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport, talking mainly about the possible arrival of Gian Piero Gasperini on the Giallorossi bench. These are his words.
Giuseppe Giannini, you know the Giallorossi environment like few, and Gasperini, at the moment, is a coach who divides the Giallorossi fans: would he be the right choice?
“But I believe that the past rifts, misunderstandings or statements of the coach that might have bothered Roma fans would eventually go by the wayside. In the event that Roma were to make Gasperini’s name official, all the past would suddenly be overcome. As has already happened in so many other cases. The Atalanta coach is the coach of the moment, he is in vogue, and it is normal that a major club like Roma would look at him with interest.”
What do you think is Gasperini’s most important asset?
“The strength of ideas. Even when he led the Juventus Primavera team he gave the team a precise physiognomy, playing even then with the 3-4-3 form. He has precise convictions in his head and has always carried them out. In addition, he is a coach who has done a lot of apprenticeship, has coached around Italy and has always been able to combine total play, athleticism and technique. Not an easy mix. He has an iron fist but he also understands the human aspect of the player. His results at Atalanta, after all, speak for him. For a club like Roma that aims to develop young players for the future, Gasperini seems to me a logical choice.”
What difficulties might he face anyway, Gasp, in an ambitious and very demanding square like the Giallorossi?
“There is no lack of pressure in Rome, we know that. And it applies to everyone. That’s why it would be important, in case he arrives, to give Gasperini precise guarantees: especially in the first months of work with a view to a multi-year project.
