Maurizio Sarri, former coach of Napoli and Lazio among others, was present at the Golden Bench award ceremony, which was staged yesterday. The coach revealed his preference, which went to Thiago Motta for his historic season on the Bologna bench. In the end, however, the former Rossoblù coach did not even make it to the podium, composed of Simone Inzaghi, Gian Piero Gasperini and Vincenzo Italiano. Below are his words on the sidelines of the event.
GOLDEN BENCH. “It’s a strange award, it relates to the previous season but voted 8-9 months later, a period in which things happen that can lead to a different evaluation. It is an award related to the 23/24 season, if you had voted the day after the last day of the championship, probably Thiago Motta could also have won this award. I voted for Motta, the team that entertained me last season.”
PERSONAL FUTURE. “You try to study, get updated, see teams and players. In short, what all coaches do in this situation. In Italy or in Europe? Where they call me and where they correspond a strong feeling and motivation.”
