Le parole di Nesta nell’ intervista sulla sua carriera

“We lived in Cinecittà, a very suburban neighborhood of Rome and very Romanist. We were the Nesta, we were marked because we were from Lazio. I played in Cinecittà, which was affiliated with Roma. They came to see me and wanted me to go. In my family we were all Lazio fans, from my father to my brother. I have always been Lazio, they would have beaten me up if not (laughs, ed.). Lazio took me when I was eight years old, I went through the whole trafila until the Primavera with Mimmo Caso as coach.”

Nesta sui trofei

“The first trophy I won in my life was the Coppa Italia with Lazio. We hadn’t won anything in 30 years. I was a child, I score and we beat Milan. That was the most beautiful trophy ever. President Cragnotti had already arrived there and started investing heavily. The European Super Cup final? No one understood that we were that strong. But we had a great squad, with Veron, Nedved, etc. Then with time they realized it. Simeone could tell that he was going to be a coach. Cholo was a hammer, so yes. Sinisa was not, and neither was Simone Inzaghi because he was a striker (laughs, ed.). Attackers think about themselves, when you are a coach instead you have to think about the team.”

Nesta sul suo ruolo

“I used to play striker, I never arrived. In Primavera, Caso put me at fullback, which was a disgrace because I wanted to cross but I could see the back and I never arrived (laughs, ed.). Then Zeman comes along and tells me, ‘You play center back.’ It changed my life. In the play-off Gascoigne would come charged, I was a kid, I was 16 years old. In the cage, where the ball never comes out, he had given me two ‘licks’ and made me fly. There was Zoff telling me to go slow. Then a ball left there, I went hard on him and smashed it. The fans waited for me outside, my brother had put me in the back and got me out of the sports center hooded. Then I had a good relationship with Gascoigne. After seven months he came back, I was afraid he would beat me up (laughs, ed.). Instead he gave me a fishing rod with hooks, even though I never fished in my life, and a pair of shoes. He opened the hood and what he found he gave me (laughs, ed.).”
