In the past two weeks, thanks to victories over Lecce and Como and Juventus’ problems, Milan is back in the race for fourth place, now six points away. Sergio Conceicao knows that to reach that goal it is necessary to win every game, starting with the one against Napoli when they return from the break at the Diego Armando Maradona. In addition to that goal, which then reopens, the Rossoneri have another important fixture on their schedule: the Coppa Italia semifinal against Inter.

In such an ugly season, winning the trophy (after so many years) could be a small satisfaction, not least because it would mean beating their cousins and avoiding a possible Triplete. This season’s record bodes well. After the six derbies lost in a row, Milan is coming from three positive results: wins in the league and in the Super Cup final and a draw in the Serie A return. Now a new double-header; Conceicao, with the elimination from the Champions League, has plenty of time to prepare for it in the best possible way, unlike the Nerazzurri, who have to prepare for the quarters against Bayern Munich and are fighting for the Scudetto.

Unlike in previous years, Simone Inzaghi is dealing with many more injuries this season since the July training camp. After that of Piotr Zielinski, who will definitely miss the first leg of the Coppa Italia semifinal (and possibly the return leg as well), another one has been added: it is Denzel Dumfries, who came out battered from Sunday night’s match against Atalanta.

The Dutchman returned to Milan from the Netherlands’ training camp and underwent instrumental examinations: according to rumors coming from the Pinetina, the player is expected to miss the three matches following the break: Udinese, Milan and Parma, in order to return in time for the first leg of the quarterfinal against Bayern Munich. The former Feyenoord, therefore, will also not be available to Inzaghi for the important Coppa Italia match against his Milan cousins.

The Nerazzurri have no roster problems: Dumfries is an important element, but Simone Inzaghi has several alternatives of the same level at his disposal. Pavard could play in that role, with Bisseck in defense, or Matteo Darmian. In short, there is no shortage of solutions, so the Inter coach can certainly sleep soundly. However, Dumfries will be ready for the return match, which will be played next April 23: a whole month to recover the best form.
