At Juventus, sometimes choices that seem the most logical turn into something different from one moment to the next. On the other hand, it also happened with Thiago Motta: confirmed by Giuntoli on TV at the end of the game, exonerated after a week’s break, even before the last appeal with Genoa. A sign of the chaos that currently reigns supreme in Turin.
Now it is also official: Igor Tudor is the new coach of Juventus. A few minutes ago came the official announcement of Thiago Motta’s dismissal and the hiring of the new coach: “Igor Tudor is the new coach of the Men’s First Team. Welcome back, Igor!” This is the statement from the Juventus club, coupled with thanks for Motta.
The same chaos that also raged in the choice of Motta’s heir. We have told you about it on several occasions in recent days: for days the name of Roberto Mancini has been the hottest name within the walls of Continassa.
A coach with pedigree, international experience, and a personal connection to the Bianconeri colors that few remembered: as a young boy he supported Juve and had Roberto Bettega as his idol.
The contacts had gone beyond mere talk. Giuntoli had identified him as the perfect candidate, Chiellini had endorsed his hiring, and even Elkann had personally gone out of his way to listen to his intentions. Mancini had given his willingness, accepting the proposal to sit on the bench immediately, provided that the following year was also in the contract.
A detail that seemed easily overcome. There was even a meeting between Mancini and the Bianconeri leadership, which we previewed last March 19. Yet, something jammed a mechanism that seemed already well-oiled.
Roberto Mancini e la Juventus: l’accordo è sfumato… per i tifosi
Reconstructing what happened was Ilario Di Giovanbattista, director of Radio Radio. The agreement with Mancini was in fact closed. The coach’s yes was there, as was the management’s approval. But after that verbal understanding, the signals that came from the Bianconeri environment were anything but encouraging.

According to Di Giovanbattista’s report, internal communication at Juventus and feedback from social networks have prompted the club to reflect. A substantial segment of fans would not welcome Mancini with open arms, complicit in his past at Inter and some past choices that had left open scars.
At an already complicated time, with qualification for the next Champions League still in question, the management considered it too risky to hire a coach who could split the fans. The fear was that, in the event of negative results, discontent could explode, turning Mancini’s adventure into a boomerang that would be difficult to manage.
That is also why the choice was then diverted to Igor Tudor, a name of the very first hour (Enrico Camelio had mentioned it as early as March 9, after the 0-4 with Atalanta) who had then ended up somewhat defiled both because of his unwillingness to act as a ferryman and because of the sharp turn to Mancini.

Tudor was seen from the start as an easier and more functional solution. He is a familiar face, has already worn the Bianconeri jersey as a player and is well regarded among the fans. Not only that: his technical profile, built between Verona, Marseille and Lazio, made him a credible candidate also to find concreteness and personality on the bench.
His aggressive and vertical style of play is something that can reignite the team in a short time. And although the stated goal remains Champions League qualification, the club is already looking ahead to the 2025 World Club Championship, a showcase in which the Bianconeri want to play a starring role.
Ultimately, for the black and white club, this is a pragmatic choice. Less risk, more substance.
