Antonio Conte could stay in Naples next year, but ponders a module change: the perfect purchase for the switch could come from Inter Milan itself

There is an image that sums up well the mood of recent times in Naples: Antonio Conte with his arms out wide, explaining (rather than protesting) what is wrong. It also happened in Venice, after a draw that made noise.
Because stopping against the next-to-last in the standings, when you have to chase Simone Inzaghi’s Inter, is not the best way to send a Scudetto message. Although, let’s face it, the Nerazzurri’s subsequent win in Bergamo made the gap even more bitter.
But this is no time to give up. Conte knows this and is pondering a return to the 4-3-3: this form has been Plan A since the summer, before injuries forced the coach to fall back on other schemes, such as the 3-5-2, which has nonetheless yielded some answers, especially thanks to a Giacomo Raspadori who has never been so in the project.
Now, however, with the return of key men such as David Neres, Anguissa, and Olivera (already back but far from his best form), the temptation is strong: to take back the system that had given a glimpse of a different Naples, perhaps not yet brilliant, but still more balanced.
Per la difesa a 3 Conte ha un problema di uomini
And this is where a question that concerns the market opens up. Because while it is true that the 4-3-3 offers more balance, it is also true that Conte has never abandoned the idea of a Napoli that is more “his own,” with a three-man defense and full-band outfielders, as was the case in his Juventus, Inter Milan or Tottenham days.

The problem? The men. Politano, for example, is a pure winger and there he is adapting, albeit with commendable spirit and acceptable results. Spinazzola alternates good games with small stops and is not physically reliable. Olivera, when he is at his best, provides running and coverage, but he is not the kind of outfielder who devours the wing for 90 minutes.
And that is why the Azzurri leadership is considering different profiles. Two names were circulating last summer: Vanderson of Monaco and Ebimbe of Eintracht, who, however, in the last market did not pass the medical examinations precisely with Monaco, so it would have to be verified. On the right side are the first options, players that Conte has long liked for their pliability and ability to play the role of fifth.
Carlos Augusto, l’occasione perfetta: Conte potrebbe valorizzarlo al Napoli
But the real surprise could come on the left: Carlos Augusto. The Brazilian from Inter Milan, who arrived from Monza, has never been Inzaghi’s regular starter, but whenever he has been called upon he has responded. He has played as an armband in the three-man defense, as a high outside back, even as a fullback in the 4-3-3, proving one thing clear: he is someone who understands the game, adapts and doesn’t make a dent.

But there is a big obstacle for him in Milan, and his name is Federico Dimarco. Playing in front of him today is impossible. Dimarco is a starter and an Inter heart and one of the best in his role in Europe. So Carlos Augusto always finds himself in the second row. Normal, then, that he starts looking around, especially if a coach like Conte knocks on your door and says, “With me you play as a starter, always.”
Inter does not consider Carlos Augusto to be incedible. With an offer of between 20 and 25 million euros, Marotta would sit down and talk. And Napoli, which needs a left outside player with running, physical strength and some international experience, is giving it serious thought. We are not talking about a kid to be molded, but a class of ’99 who knows Serie A well and who under Conte’s guidance, assuming he stays at Napoli, could make a further leap in quality.
A deal that makes sense for everyone. For Napoli, which would solve an open problem on the left lane. For Conte, who would finally have one of his ideal “soldiers” for his preferred form. And also for Carlos Augusto, who could relaunch himself as a star player after a season of lights and shadows at Inter.
