Roma, the toto coach rages: six candidates for Ranieri

LATEST NEWS FROM AS ROMA – Who will be Roma’s next coach? The choice has not yet been made in Trigoria, despite Ghisolfi’s promises more than three months ago. The executive, on December 12, assured that the market and the choice of coach would be closely linked and that the decision would come “as soon as possible.” But time passes and the games remain open, writes today’s edition of the Gazzetta dello Sport.

There were initially three dreams: Carlo Ancelotti, Roberto Mancini and Massimiliano Allegri. But if the track leading to the Real Madrid coach has been shelved by Ranieri himself, the other two have never really been contacted. Thus, the range of options has widened and now there are at least six profiles that Roma is considering for next season’s bench. Among them is Maurizio Sarri, who is considered a suitable profile because of his experience and ability to develop young players.

Another concrete name is that of Vincenzo Montella, current Turkey coach and already probed by the Giallorossi after Juric’s exoneration. To get rid of his position would require a penalty equal to six months’ salary, about one million euros, a figure that is far from prohibitive. That leaves other candidates: Gian Piero Gasperini, with whom Roma has already been in contact, but his future could depend on the moves of Antonio Conte, who in case of a farewell to Napoli could push Gasperini to the Azzurri. Conte himself is a name also liked by the Giallorossi, who are also keeping an eye on Stefano Pioli, currently tempted by Arabia (Al Nassr), and Vincenzo Italiano, on the rise with Bologna. Six options, six ideas, but still no certainty.
