Cambiaghi: “The injury was a big blow, I dream of the national team and Europe.”

Nicolò Cambiaghi, Bologna’s outfielder, made some statements in which he talked about the rehabilitation period from the ACL injury suffered at the beginning of the season. Below are the words of the red and blue number 28.

INJURY. “I tell the truth, it was undoubtedly a big blow on a mental level. I had just arrived at Bologna, an important square and doing the Champions League, getting injured on the first day was a big disappointment. I was so sorry to be out these months, because I was very charged up, I had a great desire to prove my worth and put myself out there.”

REHABILITATION. “The first month for me was very hard, also because I had never had a long and serious injury. This was also my first operation and everything was new to me. The not walking, using crutches, the pain, not being able to sleep… Then, together with the people who helped me, I made great strides. I remember the first jog, at about the third month, and then slowly I got back to doing all the things that for a player who is well are normal but for someone having ACL surgery are big things.”

CHANGES ON TEAM SUPPORT. “Right from the start I felt the closeness of the whole team. It’s not obvious, but this is really a good group. They all feel important, we train very well, sometimes we see each other outside and we all really get along. We are all rowing toward the same direction and that is the most important thing. Goal? As the coach said: Europe, we can’t know which one.”

RETURN TO THE FIELD. “At the beginning, when I came back, my goal was to be well, then of course if things also come on the field, all the better. I feel good, but not having played for so many months I still don’t have the 90 minutes. Sometimes a training I do a hair less to recover energy and do a session dedicated to the knee to keep the strength. In general, I think for the months that have passed I am really very very well.”

NATIONAL TEAM. “It’s a dream I’ve had since I was a kid, when I saw the national team win the World Cup in 2006. I work every day to also realize this dream, which I think all Italian players have, and to achieve the Azzurra jersey. It’s not an obsession, though.”
