Alexis Sanchez returns to national team: summoned by Chile after nine months

Alexis Sanchez is returning to the Chile jersey after a nine-month absence. The Udinese forward has been included in the call-up list by head coach Ricardo Gareca, who is banking on his experience for the upcoming two 2026 World Cup qualifying challenges against Paraguay and Ecuador.

The Roja’s situation in the standings is far from positive: Chile currently occupies ninth place, and in order to keep their qualification hopes alive, it will be crucial to get two wins in the upcoming matches. For this, Gareca has decided to rely on internationally experienced players such as Sanchez and Arturo Vidal. The latter is a familiar face in Italian soccer, having worn the jerseys of Juventus and Inter before returning to South America.

For Sanchez, this call-up represents an important opportunity to once again confirm himself as a leader for the Chilean national team. After returning last summer to the Juventus jersey, the 1988 class will have to prove that he can still be decisive with Chile. For his part, Gareca is hoping for his plays to climb up the standings and rekindle the World Cup dream.
