Nigeria, Okoye among pre-qualifiers for 2026 World Cup qualifiers

Udinese goalkeeper Maduka Okoye is among Nigeria’s pre-conveners for the upcoming World Cup 2026 qualifying matches. The African selection will face Rwanda on March 21 and Zimbabwe on March 25, during the break dedicated to national team commitments.

Despite an extended absence due to injury, the Super Eagles’ technical commissioner still decided to include the HCL goalkeeper in the preliminary list. Okoye will be competing for a place among the final call-ups with four other goalkeepers, Stanley Nwabali (Chippa United), Amas Obasogie (Fasil Kenema), Kayode Bankole (Remo Stars) and Ojo Adebayo (Enonis).

The decision to include Okoye among the pre-conveners shows the technical staff’s confidence in the player, who aims to return to full fitness to help Nigeria in the race to qualify for the next World Cup.
