Ancelotti doesn’t mince words and throws a jab at AC Milan ownership: coach inflames fans, here’s what he said

Since June 2023, that is, since Gerry Cardinale decided to send off Paolo Maldini and Frederic Massara, Milan has reaped only failures. This season, which was supposed to be the turning point after investing so much money, is ending in the worst possible way because, barring miracles impossible to predict to date, the team will not play in the Champions League next year, and is in doubt for Conference and Europa League as well.
From a Scudetto and Champions League semifinal to ninth place: this is RedBird’s Milan, as of today, and it is all the result of incomprehensible choices, starting with that of giving up two greats like Maldini and Massara, who had laboriously brought Milan back to high levels after years of darkness. Now that darkness seems to be back and yet another change is needed to get out of it. Carlo Ancelotti, interviewed by Rai 2 a few days ago, also spoke about this: the current Real Madrid coach had some chilling words for Maldini, with a pretty clear jab at the ownership.
Ancelotti: “Maldini? Errore mandarlo via”
Ancelotti and Maldini are two great friends: together they had incredible years at AC Milan and in different capacities. They played together and then one became the other’s coach, going on to win the Champions League twice and much more. When asked about Paolo’s departure from Milan, Carletto responded rather sharply, without any big words, as he is always used to do in short.

“To send Maldini away with all the faults he may have is to send away a piece of history. Paolo is a soccer man and represents Milan. They made a mistake sending him away,” he told the microphones of Rai 2. And it is superfluous to add more. Ancelotti knows better than anyone the value of Maldini, both as a professional and as a person, and that is why he is aware that his departure was only a harm, unconscionable.
And an even greater harm was not replacing him: since his departure, Cardinale has entrusted the sports area to inexperienced people who had never done the job, including Ibrahimovic who arrived in December 2023. As much as his career is linked to Milan, the Swede cannot even come close to Maldini’s history and sense of belonging.
