Udinese-Parma double ex Massimo Susic spoke to the microphones of OA Calcio colleagues talking about the upcoming March 3 challenge at the “Bluenergy Stadium” between his two former teams. Born in 1967, Susic wore the Bianconeri jersey for six seasons. With the Ducali, on the other hand, the former defender enjoyed several satisfactions, even winning a Uefa Cup. Here is an excerpt from his chat with colleagues.
MEMORIES – “Udinese gave me the chance to make my Serie A debut, in 1985 at the Stadio Olimpico against Roma. An opportunity that came after growing up in the Bianconeri youth academy. On the other hand, the best memory that binds me to the ducali is the 1995 Uefa Cup victory, in the final at San Siro against Juventus. I have very good memories of that experience. Both Udine and Parma are two places that have remained in my heart.”
TODAY’S UDINESE – “The club at the beginning of the season wisely decided to bet on Kosta Runjaic, a coach whom no one in Italy knew. His merits were that he gave security and his own imprint of play to the team. Udinese is a physically strong team with good individualities, from a technical point of view. With salvation now near, the Friulians have the potential to aspire to a European placement. Competing with them are such high-level teams as Roma, Bologna, Milan and Fiorentina. As we know, however, names do not count.”
THAUVIN AND ALEXIS SANCHEZ – “In all teams there is a need for reference points for the younger players. Besides having an excellent technique, Thauvin is a footballer who has a great spirit of sacrifice. Against Lecce, for example, he impressed me: while preserving the lead, he gave his teammates a big hand in coverage. Sanchez, although he has had several physical problems this season, remains an important player. Both the Frenchman and the former Inter player are two landmarks of this team.”
THE LECCE RIGORE CASE – “These are things that can happen on the field. The coach’s skill was to make the boy understand that it is the group that matters and not the individual player. I understand that the issue has been resolved.”
LORENZO LUCCA – “I started following him when he wore the Pisa jersey in Serie B. Both in the Nerazzurri and Ajax, he didn’t have a fixed minutes. This year, he has become the starter in attack for the bianconeri. He has an important physical structure, while technically he is a good player, although he has a lot to improve. Going into double digits with Udinese is one reason why many people extol him. To judge him fully we should see him at work in a big one. I wish him well in making that leap.”
THE MATCH – “Facing each other will be two teams that are in two different standings situations. Udinese will play with a clearer head than Parma, which instead has an obligation to snatch the three points. In the first leg we witnessed a balanced match: after ending the first half under two goals, Udinese had the merit of turning the game around, putting their opponents under both technically and physically. This can be a factor to be taken into account. I expect to see a good game. The only regret is to see, not only in these two teams, few Italians on the field.”
