But then something changed, not only did the spark in him go off but he was also helped by Vanoli, who abandoned his own 3-5-2 to revert to a 4-2-3-1 capable of perfectly marrying the Croatian’s characteristics. From that moment, precisely the challenge against Parma, the number 10’s season totally changed direction.

After that, it has also benefited his quality, given the chance to express himself at his best and also closer to the goal. And finally, the numbers have definitely improved as well. Not so much those related to goals and assists, because the class of ’97 scored only two goals, but the more “complex” ones. Indeed, the touches per game have increased (from an average of about 25 to almost 40), showing that the change of system has put him at the center of the game, but also the expected goals and expected assists, thus the decisive passes provided to teammates. It is therefore a whole different Vlasic, and Vanoli has found the cure: all he had to do was make him comfortable and in his own position.
