Carlo Ancelotti next coach of Roma? Judging by the words of a former teammate and great friend of his, fans can even dream…

It will be a month filled with rumors and indiscretions about who will be Roma’s next coach. Claudio Ranieri is managing the transition, but the Giallorossi club is already looking toward the future, with many names bouncing around newspapers and radio stations.

The most talked about at the moment seems to be Gian Piero Gasperini. We have already told you about Friday’s phone call between Ranieri and Gasp, a courtesy chat that may have laid the groundwork for a possible future together. But Gasperini is not the only name being mooted for Roma’s bench. There are others, some realistic, others that seem more like dreams than real possibilities. And among these dreams, there is one name that would drive the fans crazy: Carlo Ancelotti.

Let’s be clear, the idea of seeing Ancelotti on the Giallorossi bench seems really complicated today. The Emilian coach has won everything with Real Madrid, and leaving the Santiago Bernabéu for a Roma side that, in all likelihood, will not even play in the European cups next year seems unrealistic.

In the past, Ancelotti has spoken about his relationship with the capital, recounting anecdotes of when he was a young footballer walking around Trastevere, falling in love with the city and its people. And who knows, after challenges in Europe’s top competitions, he might be longing for a challenge with a different flavor, less pressing but more romantic.

But in soccer, and in life, never say never. A former teammate of Ancelotti’s, one who shared the Roma locker room with him and who, over time, has become much more than just a friend, also thinks so. We are talking about Roberto Pruzzo.

Pruzzo su Ancelotti alla Roma: la frase sibillina fa sognare i tifosi

The former Giallorossi bomber, speaking on Radio Radio, commented on rumors about a possible landing of Ancelotti at Roma with a phrase that immediately made the rounds among fans: “A future of Carlo at Roma? Who knows, anything can be,” while also making what seemed to listeners to be a “stage” pause.

A comment that, had it come from anyone else, would have sounded like a simple “boh.” But coming from Pruzzo, who has a privileged relationship with Ancelotti, it takes on a different weight. Does he know something we don’t? Or did he simply enjoy throwing out a suggestion?

What is certain is that Ancelotti has remained very attached to Roma. He has told on several occasions how much he loved the city and the team that brought him up. The idea of returning to bring Roma back to the glory of the 1980s, those of the Scudetto with Liedholm, could be a fascinating challenge for a coach who has already won everything and might even choose to take a step back for the pleasure of a new adventure with strong sentimental value.

Of course, from here to say that Ancelotti will be Roma’s next coach is a long way off. His commitments with Real Madrid are still current, and hardly a coach of that caliber would leave one of the most prestigious clubs in the world for an adventure full of unknowns. But soccer has taught us that surprises are always around the corner. And it would not be the first time that a great coach, after winning everything, decided to end his career in a special place for personal rather than professional reasons.

Pruzzo’s words, however vague, have ignited the imagination of the Giallorossi fans. And that is precisely the beauty of the soccer market: dreaming costs nothing. And even if it were only a pipe dream, the thought of Ancelotti in the Giallorossi has already given Roma fans a few nights of imagination. And who knows, maybe in the future, between a phone call and a romantic idea, this dream could become reality.
