Juventus, Giuntoli and Thiago Motta are under indictment: there is a particular reason
Juventus, Giuntoli e Motta alla sbarra: ecco la colpa più grande – SerieAnews
Juventus finally returned to smiles, at least for one night, thanks to a victory against Cagliari. Vlahovic’s decisive goal in the 1-0 final pushed the Bianconeri to fourth place, just a few points off the top. Thiago Motta’s team is slowly trying to react to the season’s difficulties, but the shadows hanging over the summer market are still all too evident.
Despite the good momentum in the league, there is one question haunting fans: how come the million-dollar purchases have not yielded the desired results?
We are talking about Douglas Luiz, Nico Gonzalez, and Teun Koopmeiners: three names that looked like they could change the fortunes of Juventus, but have so far failed to deliver on their promises. The total of 134 million spent on their price tags, with the addition of 11 million in bonuses, seemed destined to bring in world-class players.
Douglas, Nico e Koop: tra infortuni e delusione
However, to date, the three have been far from decisive. None of them has made an impact as expected, and expectations, especially in terms of goals, have been largely disappointed. Most worryingly, although they are players of unquestionable value, they have often been stopped by injuries that have compromised their continuity.

Douglas Luiz, for example, missed about two months of the season between October and December because of a muscle problem. And yesterday, in the Cagliari match, he stopped again. Koopmeiners, after suffering a broken rib, was forced to stop for almost a month, while Nico Gonzalez missed two months, from Oct. 2 to Dec. 14, because of a muscle problem.
Certainly these stops have affected their performance, but even when available, the contributions have been rather below expectations. The performances of the three signings have fallen far short of the amount spent. Nico Gonzalez, who arrived with high expectations after an excellent experience at Fiorentina, only netted two goals, one in the league and one in the Champions League.
Koopmeiners, who arrived from Atalanta with a very high market value, has scored only one goal. And then there is Douglas Luiz, for whom his first goal for the Bianconeri did not even come. In a year that has seen Juventus suffer particularly in the offensive phase, a greater impact was expected from these players, who could raise the level of the team.
Juve, speranza vana dai colpi: futuro da scrivere
The market, then, has not borne the desired fruit. Despite physical difficulties and injuries, which may partially explain their opaque performances, the reality is that these three signings should have been the quantum leap for a Juve that, after elimination from the Champions League, had to pin all its hopes on the championship.

But with a squad that is not yet at the top and new signings that have not shined as expected, the road to the top of the standings appears anything but downhill. At this point, the question remains: will Douglas Luiz, Nico Gonzalez and Koopmeiners be able to redeem themselves and prove that Juventus has made a good investment, or will this market remain one of the sore points of this season?
With the league becoming increasingly competitive and Juve unable to afford any more missteps, all that remains is to wait and hope that these players will finally find their form.
And meanwhile, John Elkann is not at all happy: too many millions have been spent without any fruit from the management, with Exor’s top shareholder watching the situation very closely, ready to intervene.
