Sergio Conceicao arrived at AC Milan at the end of 2024 and presented himself as best he could: by winning the Italian Super Cup. The enthusiasm of that victory, however, was short-lived, with the usual ups and downs in the league and elimination from the Champions League at the hands of Feyenoord after failing to gain direct access to the round of 16 due to defeat against Dinamo Zagreb. The Rossoneri’s season is practically over, and it is already a failure.
And, in case of failure to qualify for the next Champions League, which is far from a foregone conclusion, it may become even worse. But Conceicao’s responsibilities are minimal: he has been at Milan for a month and a half and has never been able to work in training because of too many commitments. Not the best to impose his own ideas. That is why, no matter what, the former Porto man would deserve confirmation in the coming season, but apparently it is not so obvious.

Many are ready to bet that Conceicao will leave Milan at the end of the season. He is focused on the field and on achieving the minimum goal that is the Champions League. A goal that will not save the Rossoneri’s season, which remains disastrous in any case, but instead could save his bench. According to the latest rumors, the club’s plan is quite clear: Ibrahimovic has denied rumors of tension with the coach and has spoken of trust in him, but without at least fourth place he will not be confirmed.

If not, however, it is very likely (and also fair) that Milan will activate the renewal option present in his contract, as of today expiring in June and for €1 million. Conceicao must therefore earn his confirmation on the field and by getting the minimum goal, which is also the most important goal for the ownership for the money coming in. Without fourth place, in addition to Conceicao’s farewell, other changes, such as in management, are not to be ruled out: after two years of failure, it is fair to expect strong choices from Cardinal such as the one made two years ago after a Champions League semifinal. In any case, it is certain that Milan needs a manager of other depth and more knowledge.
