Former Juventus midfielder Raffaele Ametrano spoke on the pages of colleagues at Il Messaggero Veneto to comment on Udinese’s clear success over Empoli last Sunday. Here is an excerpt of his statements.
EUROPEAN QUALIFICATION? – “Europe? I think we can still achieve something that seems impossible at the moment, such as the conference zone.”
RUNJAIC AND THE BIANCONERO GROUP – “I see a lot of substance in this team and Runjaic has been good at being followed by the group, but from now on it will be the motivation of individual players that will affect Udnese’s final ranking.”
A UDINESE DIFFERENT FROM THAT OF LAST YEARS – “It is certainly not the Udinese usually seen in recent years. It is not for several aspects, not the least of which is the aesthetic one because the game although still at times is really nice to look at, characterized by a lot of dynamism and the offensive unpredictability that comes from taking away reference points from the opponents. This team has ideas, solidity and a lot of quality, otherwise it would not develop the offensive maneuver with dangerousness, and at this point you have to give Runjaic credit for the skill of being followed by the group.”
THE KEY – “The system of play matters, but then it’s always a matter of attitude and motivation and willingness to sacrifice on the part of the players.”
PLAYERS’ WILLINGNESS TO MAKE THE DIFFERENCE – “It will be up to them to decide whether to try to reach something that now seems impossible, such as the conference zone, and then fight every game to stay on the ball in order to get as close as possible, or stay in this comfort zone where salvation is now out of the question.”
