Milan played tonight against Hellas Verona for the 25th day of Serie A. The Rossoneri encountered quite a few problems from the first half: once again, Sergio Conceicao’s team proves to be in great difficulty in creating dangerous goal chances, regardless of the amount of offensive players on the field. Tonight, Leao and Pulisic started from the bench only to enter in the second half on the draw.
Among the entries was also the very positive one of Alex Jimenez at the beginning of the second half: it was from him, with a great assist, that the action that led to Santiago Gimenez’s goal, his first in a Rossoneri shirt at San Siro and his second in the league. The Spaniard, whom Milan bought permanently last summer from Real Madrid for five million, was also the protagonist of a VAR episode, which, however, again failed to intervene.
Milan-Verona, Duda da espulsione: il VAR non lo vede
The Rossoneri are reeling from the controversy over what happened against Empoli in the last league round. Fikayo Tomori was sent off after the linesman failed to signal a glaring offside. In that case, by an absurd rule of protocol, VAR could not intervene. It could have done so, all right, this evening when Duda, a Hellas Verona midfielder, deliberately slapped Alex Jimenez on the back of the head.

The incident happened more or less around the hour mark: the action of Alex Jimenez ends with a cross deflected into the corner. As the Spaniard is going to take his position in the penalty area, Duda gets up and slaps him (without any kind of justification or reason) on the back of the head.
So the Spaniard, caught up in the adrenaline and unawareness of youth, reacts and pushes him to the ground. At that point the referee, who saw the push, rightly cautions Alex Jimenez, but for Duda there is nothing. The VAR should have reported the incident to the referee, and there were even grounds for a direct red considering that it may be violent conduct. Instead, nothing to be done. Something is wrong and it is quite blatant.
