In Porto last call for Pellegrini

AS ROMA NEWS – A few days ago, in an interview with Corriere della Sera, Giallorossi sporting director Florent Ghisolfi, speaking about next year’s market strategies, said, “The goal is to find sustainable certainties to add to the ones we already have: Koné, Dybala, Mancini, Ndicka, Svilar, Paredes, who is important on the field and in the locker room.” The list is missing one name that makes noise, namely that of Lorenzo Pellegrini.

In a “normal” situation, as team captain, he should have ended up at the top of the list. Instead, not only does his future look increasingly far from the capital. (…) Tomorrow night, however (9 p.m., live TV on Sky) in the first leg of the Europa League playoff away match against Porto – German referee Stieler, two previous matches with Roma with as many wins – Pellegrini is likely to be left out once again. After the Venice match, Ranieri (yesterday morning he was in Brescia for the funeral of his longtime collaborator Giorgio Pellizzaro) had spoken of a “technical choice” and no longer, as he had done at the beginning of his third Roma adventure, of a player who needed to recharge his batteries. A clear sign that today, with equal condition, he prefers other footballers. (…)

Certain the absence of Rensch, who did separate work yesterday due to a slight strain in his right adductor, while Hummels and Paredes – to whom the coach had given a few days off by not summoning them for the away match in Venice – and Koné, who served a disqualification in the lagoon, are back with their teammates. All three will be starters, along with Ndicka, Saelemaekers, Angeliño, Mancini and Dybala. Up front, a ballot between Dovbyk and Shomurodov, out in Venice but a starter in the previous two games against Napoli and Milan.
