Conceicao is grappling with disqualifications and absences in Rotterdam against Feyenoord: the coach is mulling over a resounding possibility

Milan won in Empoli two to zero thanks to a good showing in the second half and Sergio Conceicao’s changes. In the second half, all the resounding offensive potential of the Rossoneri was seen, something few other teams (in Europe) can boast. Leao, Joao Felix, Gimenez, Pulisic and Reijnders: all on the field together to provide great quality and spectacle, also favored by the two men less (an expulsion on one side and the other) and thus more space.
A structure of play that can only be sustainable with a great willingness to sacrifice on the part of the outsides and by the work in the non-possession phase of the whole team. At the moment, however, working on these things is difficult because there is no time and therefore there is a great risk of creating imbalance. One thing is certain: those four together at the same time on the field we will see them often during the rest of the season, probably starting as early as Rotterdam in the Champions League. Musah’s disqualification and absences are giving Conceicao pause for thought.
Le scelte di Conceicao per Rotterdam
The two players used by the coach to provide balance to the team are Yunus Musah, now to be considered a starter, and Alex Jimenez. Both, however, will not be able to be in the match on Wednesday night in Holland: the American is disqualified because of the naive expulsion in Zagreb, while the latter is not on the B list (he cannot as he has been at Milan for less than two years).

Then add to these absences those of Sottil, Bondo (also excluded from the list) and Loftus-Cheek, still struggling with the Super Cup muscle injury (he could be available again for Hellas Verona in the league). The only balancer at Conceicao’s disposal is Filippo Terracciano, who now always plays as a midfielder as he did in his youth. That is why the Portuguese coach is pondering a possible hyper offensive Milan in Rotterdam with Leao and Pulisic on the outside and with Joao Felix and Gimenez in attack.
In the middle of the field, the only ones available are Fofana and Reijnders, the untouchables. An emergency situation that could therefore be a way to see those four all together again on the field as in the second half in Empoli. The alternative, as mentioned, is instead the use of Terracciano in place of an outside player in case of confirmation of the 4-4-2 or a striker (probably Joao Felix) for, instead, a 4-3-3.
