No parking garage in place of the current Corridoni school in Viale Sinigaglia in Como ? The question came up after the presentation – yesterday in the City Hall – of renderings of the new Sinigaglia stadium by the architectural firm Populous. In the “simulations” of the new facility – with its adjacent areas – there was no provision for a parking garage as, instead, had been assumed by Mayor Rapinese in recent weeks. The first citizen, when asked specifically, limited himself to a generic: “You can’t see….” referring to the project papers. But with an addition that may hint at something else: “Today is not my press conference, it is not fair for me to say anything else…..” In fact, however, in the official project space for a parking area near the facility is not provided. But Rapinese’s words may also hint at something else.
Planned-this yes-is an expansion of the current area called “Pulesin” near Villa Olmo: the parking capacity here, from what has been speculated, should reach 400 places. And it could be an important space for fans heading to the stadium although perhaps not enough in particular for fixture matches with big clubs. And then there remains–and here the planners have been very clear–the issue of the capacity of the new stadium after renovation: just over 15,000 seats, and for many that is a decidedly low number compared to today’s just over 10,000. But those involved in the renovation have made it clear that it is one thing to redo the stadium from scratch-with the possibility of creating many seats-and another to intervene with the existing structure and modify it. You cannot go much beyond 15,000 seats when everything – late summer 2028 according to the best-case scenario – is finished.
