Kevin Bonifazi says goodbye to Lecce after being ousted from the over list for the Serie A championship. The central defender has returned to Bologna, which in turn diverted him on loan to Sassuolo, launched into Serie A under Fabio Grosso’s orders.
The following is the statement from the Emilia club: “U.S. Sassuolo Calcio announces that it has acquired from Lecce, on loan until June 30, 2025, the sports performance of the player Kevin Bonifazi (defender, 1996).
Born in the province of Rieti, Bonifazi took his first steps in the world of soccer in some Roman teams, and at 15 he landed in Siena’s youth team. After the club went bankrupt in 2014, he moved to the youth sector of Torino, with which he won a Primavera Championship. In July 2015 he was loaned in Serie C first to Benevento, with which he made his professional debut, and the following year to Casertana; in 2016/2017 he landed on loan at SPAL, with which he won the B championship and was promoted to Serie A, contributing 3 goals in 20 appearances.
In 2017/2018 he returned to Torino but found little space, so the following year he returned to Ferrara and with the biancazzurra shirt found his first goal in Serie A in the win against Roma and then a second in the win against Juventus. In the summer of 2019, he was then bought back by the Ferrara club and then counter-retired by Torino, a club where he stayed for the first half of the season but still managed to score in both Serie A and the Europa League.
In January 2020 he returned again to SPAL and found a goal right against Sassuolo but failed to avoid relegation; in late September he was loaned to Udinese, where he collected 32 appearances between Serie A and Coppa Italia. In July 2021 he moved permanently to Bologna, a shirt with which he took the field 40 times while also providing an assist, and in January 2024 he went on loan to Frosinone and then, in the summer market, to Lecce.
In February 2017 he was called for a training camp in Coverciano by coach Gian Piero Ventura, and in September of the same year he made his debut with the National Under-21 team in a friendly against Spain, a selection with which he then participated in the European Under-21 Championship in 2019.
From the whole Black and Green family, welcome Kevin!”
