Atalanta, injury emergency: seven players in the pits

Atalanta is facing a delicate moment due to a full infirmary, with seven players unavailable. The latest stoppages involve Scamacca, Kolasinac and Carnesecchi, all struggling with muscle problems sustained in the match against Torino. They are joined by Lookman, still out with a lateral collateral injury, as well as Scalvini and Kossounou, whose absence will last for about three months. Zappacosta, who has been hit by the flu, could return shortly, however.

Atalanta, emergenza infortuni: sette giocatori ai box

As L’Eco di Bergamo points out, with seven out of twenty-five players out, Atalanta is losing more than a quarter of its squad, a situation that complicates the management of upcoming matches. The only positive aspect is that the market is still open, allowing the club to intervene to fill some gaps. However, absences weigh heavily, especially in a period of close commitments. Similar situations have occurred before, such as at the beginning of the season, when Dea faced Inter with a re-staffed defense and without Scalvini, Scamacca, Kolasinac, Hien, Zaniolo, Sulemana and Bakker. Even between September and October, the team had to deal with month-long stoppages for Kossounou and Brescianini, but once the injured were recovered, they managed to climb up the standings. The numbers testify to the critical nature of the situation: in 2024/25, Atalanta’s players have already missed a total of 127 games, with an average of five matches missed per roster member. Only a few players, including de Roon, Ederson, Samardzic, Pasalic, and Palestra, have avoided major injuries, providing continuity for the team. In recent years, Atalanta has gone from almost injury-free management to recurring moments of emergency, as happened in the return leg of 2021/22 and the final round of 2022/23. Now Gasperini will have to find new solutions to keep the team competitive despite the difficulties.
