Barcelona, Flick: “Great respect for Atalanta and Gasperini, but we want to win”

DAL NOSTRO INVIATO A BARCELLONA

“I have great respect for Atalanta and Gasperini, he has been working there for more than eight years and we can see the results. I like his style of play, it is quite unique in Europe. They play really well, they score, they have been brave in away games and we will have to focus on that.”

“For me La Liga is the most important thing to win. We still have a whole season, there are other important competitions like also the Champions League, and the latter is a really difficult competition to win. There are so many very strong teams. We want to win tomorrow and finish second in the group, to see what will happen then in the round of 16.”

“Szczesny starting tomorrow? When I say something important about him, then maybe it looks like Pena is the weaker one. My role is to make decisions, Szczesny has a good personality but they are both strong. I will decide with my team and the technical staff, but I always think about the team. The decision is difficult, that for sure.”

“I am happy with the way our team is now, we can achieve great successes. I haven’t seen the new Camp Nou yet, they will tell me soon when we can move in but at the moment we play in Montjuic and I’m fine with that. What would I bet on between Champions and Spanish La Liga? I’m a coach, I can’t bet (laughs, ed.).”

“Our goal is to finish second, I say this about tomorrow. It’s always difficult against Italian teams, they have a very good defense. Atalanta plays well all over the field, it’s not easy to play against them. When they have control of the ball they make quick transitions with all the players, they love to play one vs one, we have to be ready. Today I told the team about Atalanta and hopefully we will make the right decisions for tomorrow.”

“Coesa told me Szczesny about Atalanta. They are our secrets, we keep them inside (laughs, ed.). There is no Lookman? When you’re missing an important player it’s definitely not easy, but Gasperini knows his team very well and will be able to find the right adjustments. I don’t look at a single player, it’s the whole team acting together. Atalanta’s style of play will not change, the important thing is to train well. For me, not much will change….”
