JANUARY 9 UPDATE – According to reports in today’s edition of Corriere dello Sport, Lazio is putting the idea of a transfer of Gateano Castrovilli on the back burner but not abandoning it. The former Fiorentina man continues to train at Formello with the rest of the group, hoping to stay at least until June. In the last five games the midfielder has accumulated just 15 minutes on the field, which is why a January farewell would not yet be out of the question. The next few days will potentially be decisive.
UPDATE DECEMBER 27 – Rumors of the past few days that Castrovilli is being approached by Udinese find confirmation. Confirming this rumor is Il Messaggero Veneto, according to which the Friulians would be closely watching the profile of the 1997 class.
DECEMBER 23 UPDATE – According to reports by Alfredo Pedullà, Udinese have reportedly made an exploratory poll for Gaetano Castrovilli. The physical troubles experienced by the former Fiorentina player are pushing Lazio to intervene in the market and his departure is not ruled out. The Friulian club, meanwhile, is watching the interested development.
UPDATE DECEMBER 23 – Fabiani is reportedly trying to convince Claudio Lotito to reinforce Lazio’s midfield in the upcoming soccer session. Today’s edition of Il Messaggero reports that Gateano Castrovilli is struggling to find the congruous physical condition and the biancoceleste DS would like to please Marco Baroni, who has reportedly indicated that area of the field as in need of additions. The president of the capital club, however, would not endorse a purchase. Disposals (Akpa-Akpro, Basic and Hysaj) remain the priority, pending news on Castrovilli.
UPDATE DECEMBER 19 – According to reports in Il Messaggero, Lazio is planning to reinforce the midfield with one or, even, two strikes in the upcoming January market. To do so, however, it would need to free up space in the squad. In this sense, the biancoceleste club would be considering the termination of Gaetano Castrovilli’s contract. A drastic decision, considering that the player has only arrived in Formello a few months ago, but one that could open the door to new graft.
DECEMBER 15 UPDATE – There may be a change in Lazio’s thoughts: as reported by Corriere dello Sport, Castrovilli’s position would no longer be completely safe. From the date of his knee operation (in November) to now, the Apulian midfielder has collected just 17 minutes in about a month between Coppa Italia and Serie A. Between now and January, the club will reserve the option to consider terminating the contract with the 1997 class or arranging for his transfer for free. Until then, the former Fiorentina man will have to scramble to prove he deserves a chance.
As reported in Corriere dello Sport, however, the Biancoceleste club has decided to leave everything unchanged, giving the former Fiorentina player time to recover from the left knee injury he sustained after a game clash with Dele-Bashiru. The expected stop, after the meniscus operation, is about 2-3 weeks and the break is the right opportunity, also for him, to recover at his best and return to Marco Baroni’s disposal without missing too many matches.
