A Como unleashed on the market has made official in the evening the purchase of the external offensive player Assane Diao and it is an important arrival for the Larian formation that can thus count on a very promising young man. The news had been circulating on the web for days and today came the official announcement from Viale Sinigaglia. Como 1907 is pleased to announce the signing of Assane Diao from Real Betis. The 19-year-old outfielder, known for his pace, versatility and flair for goal, has signed a four-and-a-half-year contract that will bind him to the Como team until the end of the 2028/29 season.
Cesc Fàbregas’ satisfaction: “Assane possesses a combination of speed, quality and a nose for goal. He is very intelligent in the game without the ball and can find open spaces in which to free himself. His versatility will be a great asset to the team, I look forward to working with him. He is a player for the present and the future of the club. We continue to follow our strategy: to have young and promising players in the team who can grow a lot.”
Born in Ndongane, Senegal and raised in Spain, Diao quickly climbed the ranks of European soccer. At 6’3″ tall, he began his career in the youth ranks of Badajoz, Flecha Negra and Balón de Cádiz before arriving, in 2021, at Betis Sevilla. Here are his first words with the blue jersey: “I am very happy to be here and to join the Como 1907 family. I can’t wait to start and give so many joys to the fans! I spoke with Coach Cesc Fabregas several times, we talked and he told me about the club’s project. I am very excited and can’t wait to get on the field!”
During his time at Real Betis, Diao collected 28 appearances in La Liga, contributing significantly to the team’s successes with goals and assists having also been one of the protagonists of the memorable draw against Barcelona in December 2024. Internationally, Diao has represented Spain at various youth levels, wearing the U19 and U21 national team jersey.
