We studied the players who have lost the most market value (VDM) from July to the present: some data are surprising
There are times when a ranking is not about successes or records, but about disastrous falls. This is one of those cases. Let’s talk about the Flop 20 of Serie A footballers with the biggest losses in market value (VDM) according to Transfermarkt data.

A turn of the year that leaves deep wounds, especially for Milan and Roma while even an excellent name like Lautaro Martínez was not immune.
At the top of this unenviable list is Milan, a team that with the disastrous Fonseca management seems to have lost its bearings. Fikayo Tomori is the emblem of decline, with his market value dropped by a resounding 45 percent, from 40 to 22 million euros. But he is not alone: Bennacer, stationary for much of the season, has seen his value plummet by more than 50 percent, from 30 to 14 million. And then there is Rafa Leao, the Portuguese jewel, who has lost 15 million in value despite very high expectations.
And that’s not all. Theo Hernandez, a staple on the left flank, also saw a 16.7 percent reduction, losing 10 million. Newcomer Tammy Abraham and young Strahinja Pavlovic complete the picture of an AC Milan side that seems to be struggling more than the standings suggest.
If Milan cries, Roma certainly does not laugh. The numbers speak for themselves: Mario Hermoso, with a loss of 60 percent of his value, has disappointed expectations. The same fate has befallen Paulo Dybala, who seems far from his Juventus glory days, and Lorenzo Pellegrini, the captain who has failed to drag his side along and has come within a step of being sold. Bryan Cristante and Gianluca Mancini are also not exempt from this downward spiral.
Lautaro e gli altri: quando anche i campioni calano
Inter seemed the happy island in the league, but the Nerazzurri were not spared either. Lautaro Martínez, the symbol of the attack, lost 10 million in value despite good performances. Benjamin Pavard, last year’s reinforcement with a bang, has also suffered a significant drop complicit in a less-than-stellar start to the season and also a nagging injury.

There is also no shortage of surprises. Douglas Luiz, Juventus’ super flop, tops the list with a 35.7 percent loss, dropping from 70 to 45 million euros. Even Giacomo Raspadori, who seems to be on his way out with Napoli since he is closed in every department with Antonio Conte, has seen a worrying drop. Several are the surprises especially in the second part of this ranking. In addition to Raspadori there is also, for example, Kayode of Fiorentina, who has become almost a ghost with Palladino losing about 7 million in value, and the name of Thijs Dallinga, the supposed turnaround man for Bologna who in 6 months has scored only one goal (a week ago) and lost about 33 percent of his value, also stands out.
Looking at this ranking, it comes naturally to ask: how much does it depend on individuals and how much on a struggling system? Injuries, questionable tactical choices and a not always brilliant summer market have played a role. But it is equally clear that some players seem to have lost the spark that made them unique.
